Bring on Summer!
It’s hard to believe that it’s already mid-May, and summer has basically begun. It feels like just the other day that I was hearing people complain about snow, cold weather, and their wondering when Spring would show its face. It’s funny how people forget that Spring is a transitional season; maybe they’ve just been spoiled by the great March/April weather of previous years. There’s the whole saying “April showers, bring May flowers” for a reason because really, flowers like to wait till its warm to start blooming.
Maybe it’s because the cold weather stuck around longer than in the past few years, but New Years, January, all of it feels like it just happened the a few weeks ago. I digress though, as I meant not to reminisce (too much), but rather to look forward to the next four or five months. It’s funny, for me the weather doesn’t necessarily signify the change in seasons, rather it is the sports I play that define the time of year. Last Fall I was playing a combination of indoor and outdoor sports, followed by a Winter trapped in a gym; trapped with a great group of people, but still trapped.
But now the sun is out, and I couldn’t be more pumped to be playing sports with it shining down on me. It’s a good thing too, because if I’m not at work chances are I’ll be out playing sports. Between mens’ soccer twice a week, co-ed soccer and inner tube water polo as part of FCSSC, perhaps the odd sub appearance, and hopefully some weekends of pick-up games. Combine these with regular trips to the gym, and here’s hoping for a fitter, tanner, happier Tom just in time for Iceland in October.
